The Software Engineering Process Technology Company (SEPT), founded in 1992, is a firm specializing in meeting the software process standards information needs of the professional community particularly concerning the ISO/IEC/IEEE 12207 standard. Stan Magee, President of SEPT, was one of the principal US delegates to the ISO SC 7 International Plenary meetings from 1986 – 2002, and was a major contributor to the development of ISO/IEC 12207, signing off the final draft of ISO/IEC 12207 for the United States in Rome, Italy in November 1994.
Mr. Magee is the past convener (1999-2002) of the WG 7 (Life Cycle Management Working Group) for ISO/IEC JTC1/SC7 Systems and Software Engineering. During his time as convener, the ISO/IEC/IEEE 15288 System Engineering-System Life Cycle Processes standard was developed.
During his work with this standard-making group, it became apparent to Mr. Magee that a lay person could become confused as to what is required versus what is suggested by a standard. Sometimes language and wording contained in a standard can be clear only to people intimately familiar with terms used to speficy standards. To reduce this confusion, SEPT started producing checklists for standards and since 1994, has released over 90 checklist products. These checklists "lift the fog" around spesific standards and clearly state what is required versus what is suggested by a standard.
SEPT checklists are constructed around a classification scheme of physical evidence comprised of policies, procedures, plans, records, documents, audits, and reviews. We have concentrated on software process safety critical standards and our checklists have been used by companies around the world. In addition to checklists, we also provide standards information via templates, reports, and this web site.
